Description

The Devi Bhagavata Purana, also known as the Devi Bhagavatam. The Devi Bhagavad Puran is a Sanskrit text that belongs to the Puran genre of hindu literature. The text consists of 12 skand and 318 chapters. Along with Devi mahatmya it was one of the most important works in shaktism, a tradition within Hinduism that worships Devi or shakti as the primordial creator of the universe and the Brahma. It celebrates the divine feminine as the origin of all existence- the creator, the preserver and the destroyer of everything as well as the one who empowers spiritual liberation. Like other Puranas the Devi Bhagavad Purana contains narratives that praise the Devi as supreme. Parts of it have worked their way into popular hinduism such as the narrative of goddess Durga in her fight with the buffalo demon Maheshasur. Devi Bhagavad is the supreme Puran, and is known to bestow Dharma, wealth of peace and liberation to the readers.
